MEDIA RELEASE
Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Community Network Forum
March 2025
The Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Community Network Forum will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston, from 9:00am – 4:30pm on Thursday 13th March.
This will mark the 11th Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Forum, with this year’s theme, “We All Have a Role to Play,” highlighting that every community member can make a difference in suicide prevention.
Experts in suicide prevention, mental health service providers, community members, and those with lived experience will come together to share knowledge, discuss key issues, and collaborate on solutions to reduce suicide rates across Tasmanian communities.
“Together, through open conversations and shared commitment, we can build stronger support systems and create a future where Tasmanians feels heard, understood, and supported on their journey towards mental well-being.” Stated Dr Michael Kelly, Chair of the Tasmanian Suicide Prevention Community Network.
“The annual Suicide Prevention Forum is an opportunity to work together, with our communities, to break down the stigma surrounding suicide and create a culture of support.”
The forum will include workshops and keynote speakers, providing attendees with refreshed knowledge, practical skills, and insights into the future of suicide prevention in Tasmania.
Presenters are listed below:
- Nathan Bolton, a former Australian Special Forces operator turned mental health advocate, will share his journey facing life-and-death situations in Afghanistan and battling the hidden war within himself.
- Chief Psychiatrist Professor Dinesh K Arya will discuss the evolving landscape of suicide prevention in Tasmania: Where we’ve come from, where we are, and how we can strengthen our approach into the future.
- Greg Smith, coordinator of Men Care Too and MCT North West Mates will discuss men’s mental health, carer support, local community initiatives and his role as an R U OK? Ambassador.
- Jodhi Gough, founder of The Drum Collective will share information about the healing power of creative therapies and host a group drum circle.

- Relationships Australia Tasmania will host a workshop on how the sector can contribute to creating a connected and respectful Tasmania to help prevent suicide.
