Family Dispute Resolution and Mediation can help those experiencing difficulties resolve disputes and/or reach agreements in relation to property settlement, financial matters, and family disputes including parenting arrangements.

About Family Dispute Resolution (FDR)

The FDR service provides confidential information, support, referral and Dispute Resolution (mediation) in relation to:

  • property settlement
  • financial matters
  • disputes between family members including Elder Mediation
  • parenting arrangements

What happens in Family Dispute Resolution?

Initial intake appointment with an intake officer – to gather information about your situation and your reasons for coming to RA Tas.

Each person attends an individual appointment with a mediator – this appointment is to ensure that each party is ready for mediation.

Joint dispute resolution session(s) – a structured negotiation process where the mediator assists both parties to identify and asses options, negotiate and seek agreement to resolve their dispute.

Child Inclusive appointment – where appropriate an opportunity for the child or children to convey their thoughts, needs and concerns to a neutral person.

This service is available through the Family Relationship Centres in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport.

Fees

FDR involving children is funded by the Australian Government so, in one of our programs, fees are waived for a specific number of sessions. Following this, fees are charged.

The Mediation Service is a fee-for-service program. Any concerns about your ability to pay the fee can be discussed with your dispute resolution practitioner (mediator) please let us know if you have a concession card.
