Mediation and counselling services for families who need help with issues related to ageing.
Who is this service for?
This service is for older people (65+) who may be experiencing or at risk of elder abuse. This service may also involve family, friends or carers.
What is the Elder Relationship Service?
This service can help older people and their families to:
- prevent or resolve family conflict before it becomes abusive
- a safe space for difficult conversations.
- resolve differences in ways that improve their relationships
- empowering older people to plan for the future
Attending the Elder Relationship Service is voluntary and confidential, within the limits of the law. Everyone gets the opportunity to express their view with the support of an independent practitioner. The Elder Relationship Service is staffed by trained counsellors and mediators with specific skills in delivering services to people experiencing conflict or concerned about elder abuse.

Why would I use this service?
Dealing with change can be hard for anyone no matter what your stage of life. This is even harder if you feel like you are being pressured to make decisions or if there are arguments with family members or someone you care for. At Relationships Australia we understand and can assist when people are feeling stressed or agree just to avoid arguments.
Where more than one person is involved, the practitioner may need to see each person separately. Some issues are resolved in a few sessions, others take longer.
No referral is required and waiting times for an appointment can vary according to the current level of demand and your availability.
