The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) is a free program that connects eligible older people who are experiencing loneliness or social isolation with volunteer visitors who provide companionship and friendship. Visits are available to people receiving government-subsidised residential aged care or accessing the Support at Home program who would benefit from regular social connection.
Volunteer visitors spend time with their matched older person, making at least 20 visits each year, usually for around one hour every fortnight. Visits can be as simple as sharing stories over a cup of tea, working on a hobby together, playing a game, or taking a walk.
We welcome referrals from aged care service providers, health professionals, family members and friends, with the older person’s consent. Older people can also refer themselves to the program.

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer?
Just one hour a fortnight of your time could bring connection, companionship, and joy to an older person experiencing loneliness.
Becoming an aged care volunteer visitor can be a rewarding and life-changing experience. You will make a friend, share stories and help someone who might be feeling isolated or lonely.

Would you, or someone you know, appreciate regular companionship?
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) supports regular, in person visits to give friendship and companionship to older people.
A volunteer visitor builds meaningful connections through regular visits, offering an opportunity for conversation, shared interests and social interaction.
Volunteer visitor stories – Peter and Jack
Peter volunteers to visit with Jack every week at his home. They open up about how Peter is helping Jack share his life story and the importance of their friendship to both of them

The Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS) is funded by the Australian Government and connects volunteers with older people to build meaningful friendships and reduce social isolation.
