Would you, or someone you know, appreciate regular companionship?
The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) supports regular, in person visits to give friendship and companionship to older people.
A volunteer visitor builds meaningful connections through regular visits, offering an opportunity for conversation, shared interests and social interaction. Visits are tailored to the interests of the older person and may include:
- Enjoying a chat over a cup of tea
- Taking a walk together
- Sharing a hobby or activity
- Reading, playing games or simply spending time together
Even a small amount of regular social connection can make a significant difference to an older person’s wellbeing, helping them feel valued, connected and supported.
Who can be referred?
Older people can be referred to the program by:
- Family members or friends
- Aged care providers and support services
- Health professionals
- Community organisations
- The older person themselves
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, a person must be receiving Australian Government-funded aged care services, including:
- Residential aged care
- A Home Care Package
This includes people who have been approved for these services or are on the National Priority System awaiting services.
Make a Referral
If you know an older person who may benefit from friendship and companionship through regular volunteer visits, we encourage you to submit a referral.
Whether you are a family member, friend, aged care provider or are seeking support for yourself, our team can help determine eligibility and discuss the next steps.
