Death Over Chocolate
Some of the most meaningful conversations we can have are often the ones we put off, like those about death.
Death is not just about practical details like wills and wishes, but about deeper reflections: what we value, what we hope for, and how we’d like to be remembered.
Death Over Chocolate explores how to openly talk about death and end of life wishes.
Designed to imitate the comfort and familiarity of the kitchen table, you are invited to pull up a chair, gather around a platter of sweet treats, and connect over the one experience we all share – death. It’s a chance to reflect, listen and learn in a way that feels supportive and approachable.
This session is designed to be interactive, however; level of participation is up to each individual.
Death Over Chocolate is not a counselling session or a formal program, but rather a guided, thoughtful conversation in a safe space.
This workshop is part of the GriefCare Tasmania pathway, a caring network of services here to support you through grief, loss and bereavement.
GriefCare Tasmania offers a simple, single point of contact so you don’t have to navigate this alone. Whatever your situation, we can help connect you with the right support that feels right for you. To talk with someone or learn more about the supports available, please contact grief@reltas.com.au or call 1300 364 277.
This initiative is inspired by the Death Over Dinner movement and is delivered in collaboration with Rebecca Bartel, who introduced it to Australia.
Here is what other participants say about RA Tas’ Death Over Dinner workshop:
“I wasn’t sure what to expect, however my expectations were definitely met, I loved how this workshop kept me engaged from the start. Having that initial thought of a loved one that has passed and to have that person with you throughout the workshop was brilliant, really made me think of things in a different way which I needed”

“I wasn’t sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. It’s made me think a lot about how important these conversations are and how they are often not had in time”
