January 2024
Relationships Australia Tasmania and State Government’s Healthy Tasmania announced today nominations for the Neighbours Every Day Community Grants have closed.
Relationships Australia Tasmania Acting CEO Mel Harback said the grant round received 84 nominations from communities all across Tasmania.
“Neighbours Every Day is a national campaign that encourages people to build respectful, sustainable relationships and reduce loneliness, culminating in the day of action on Neighbour Day, the last Sunday in March,” Ms Harback said.
“The grants are held in the lead up to Neighbour Day, this year on Sunday 31 March, which encourages neighbourly activities to increase community connectedness.”
Ms Harback said Relationships Australia Tasmania and the State Government’s Healthy Tasmania partnered this year, to launch the Neighbours Every Day community grants where communities could apply for up to $1250 to support neighbourly activities that create social connection and address loneliness in their community.
“The volume of applications this year has been phenomenal. Each year I am amazed by the standard of applications, and the drive and passion from community members to create social connections and reduce loneliness in their community.
“The applications received were of a high standard, featuring a diverse range of neighbourly activities such as community afternoon teas, seed libraries, coffee groups, community connection days and movie nights.”
Assessment of applications take place next week, with successful grantees to be notified in mid-February.
