What is Community Based Mental Health Care Services?

This is a service that helps people to learn to deal more effectively with life issues and mental health difficulties.

Who is this service for?

Adults and children 5 years or older. You will need a referral/Mental Health Care Plan from your doctor to access this service. This service is available to people in Hobart and southern regional Tasmania.

Who provides this service?

The service is provided by psychologists and mental health practitioners. Our practitioners help people of all ages learn to deal more effectively with life issues and mental health difficulties.

What to expect in your first session

Your first session is usually an information gathering process. The first thing you will be asked to do is complete a questionnaire about your past and current experiences, to give us a broad understanding of how things are for you. We will talk about what your concerns are, get some background information and identify goals for future sessions.

How do I make an appointment?

You will need to visit your GP/psychiatrist/paediatrician to get a Mental Health Care Plan Referral. Once we have received that referral we will make contact with you to organise an appointment.

You are eligible for up to six sessions to start with and your referral is valid for 12 months. If your child has been referred to the service, we will meet with you first for an appointment to discuss your child’s needs.

You can also contact our friendly staff on 1300 364 277.

Fees

This is a free service to people who have a Mental Health Care Plan provided by their GP, psychologist or paediatrician.
